Biografie
Focused, deliberate, hard working. All these things apply to the way that Jin Choi approaches his music, but they leave out probably the most important aspect as to why he does what he does: emotion. Communication with an unseen consumer/listener is of the utmost importance to Jin.
A message or a feeling that he experiences is absolutely essential. From his early sparse techno offerings, which included rules about rhythm without claps or obvious hi-hat patterns, to his period of obsession with treated pianos, tightly wound snappy percussions and beautiful vocals, to his current experimentation with a myriad of forms and upcoming scoring projects, Jin has always had a unique and strong voice. Always knowing what sound was needed, and where to place it in the frequency spectrum.
His label – Private Gold – has seen a release schedule that always focused on depth of message and quality of product. A vehicle with which to release emotional, intellectual and beautiful music of his own and a few close friends, it has proved itself to be a label that doesn't compromise.
Accomplishments include amazing EPs on Lessizmore, Archipel, Ware, Contexterrior, Serialism, Roman-photo and Systematic – all received critical acclaim from artists and fans alike. However, Jin is not one to rest on his laurels… releasing his first full length solo artist album in 2012. "A Thousand Whales of Love" was widely lauded as being a 'proper' album, accomplishing the clichéd "not just a collection of tracks" that so few are able to. The future holds big things for Jin Choi.
