Dorit Chrysler

Dorit Chrysler has been dubbed a superior wizard of the theremin, a mysterious electronic musical instrument invented by Lev Termen in 1920 and played without touch. Dorit has fiercely promoted the Theremin by teaching and playing all over the world - Chrysler has received her master degree of musicology in Vienna and is a performance artist and composer who co-founded The NY Theremin Society and has started the first International Theremin School with branches in New York and Paris: L'Ecole Theremine & KidCoolThereminSchool. Dorit performed with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and is featured on the soundtrack of the HBO documentary Going Clear and has just completed an analog Theremin Soundtrack for a remake of M by Fritz Lang by David Schalko for a TV Crime Series. Her works have been commissioned i.e. by MoMA, the Venice Biennale and The French Cultural Ministry. She is the founder of "Dame Electric" a festival dedicated to female Pioneers in Analog Music. As the director of the NYTheremin Society, Dorit is currently producing the THERMIN100 compilation release which commemorates the 100th birthday of the Theremin in 2020. Dorit has received a Knightsbridge Foundation Grant and has most recently lectured at Radcliffe Harvard University & the Sibelius Academy. Residencies include the Gaite Lyrique Museum in Paris, Schlachthaustheater Bern and Pioneer Works in Brooklyn. She co-produced the ten piece Theremin Orchestra Performance at the LA Disney Hall and has collaborated i.e. with CERN, Carsten Nicolai, Cluster, Jesper Just, Anders Trentemoeller, Elliot Sharp and Phillippe Quesne. Dorit performed her works at the Lincoln Center, Palais Tokyo, the Louisiana Museum, Coachella, Roskilde, Konzerthaus Vienna and MMCA Seoul as well as solo concerts worldwide, i.e. in Brazil, Australia, Japan, China, Mexico and Canada.

In Concert, Dorit Chrysler showcases a unique Theremin Style by weaving layers of microtonal Theremin loops, creating cinematic soundscapes with Theremin, analog tracks and live vocals. The Wall Street Journal dubbed Dorit a "futuristic Lotte Lenya", ARTE TV: "Queen of the Theremin" and Ann Magnuson described Dorit's music for Paper Magazine: "Imagine, if Marianne Faithful and Nikola Tesla had a love child, with Jane Birkin as the nanny and Bjork as the wayward Girl Scout leader."
