Biografie
What is a Corps? A body, a unit, a squad. Different parts coming together to work as a unified whole.
Who is Rose Corps?
She is Aeron Premo, DJ & solo artist, synthesizing her eclectic background of influences into something unique. Rose Corps's music is grounded in history but looks to the future, blending synth pop, disco, boogie, house, and soul/R&B into sets to move your feet and songs to move your heart.
As the daughter of a career military officer, Aeron's childhood was spent moving between Germany and the United States. She always enjoyed singing, but never anticipated a career in music — her first love was dance. However, over the years of training and competition she found that the 80's-stacked record collections of her dance teachers called to her just as strongly as the choreography. Premo's time in Europe helped expose her to a diverse range of genres, and her time in dance studios fostered a fascination with electronic music. Together with the love of jazz, soul, and classic pop that she inherited from her father, and her teenage explorations of Britpop and alternative rock, Aeron's transient childhood foreshadowed the development of Rose Corps's signature eclectic sound.
Premo's joy in singing was reignited during her time as a student at the University of Georgia when she joined the Women's Glee Club. Aeron was looking for a casual creative outlet, but instead she found a calling. She began to develop her skills as a songwriter and vocalist, drawing inspiration from a wide range of artists including Kimbra, Teena Marie, Jill Scott, and James Dean Bradfield of Manic Street Preachers. Later, Aeron became interested in DJing after discovering the work of English singer-songwriter & DJ Little Boots. With her electropop sound and refusal to be relegated to a single role, Little Boots was a fresh embodiment of the 80's synth & disco acts that influenced & inspired Premo like OMD, Duran Duran, and Kate Bush.
Aeron already knew that she had inherited her dance gene from her Australian grandmother Clare Lawler Premo, and her late cousin Tommy Grover had played lead guitar in several Atlanta-area glam metal bands. What she didn't know was that the Australian branch of her family included more than a few musicians, DJs, and entertainers. It wasn't until she traveled there in 2013 and grew to know her Australian relatives that she realized music was also in her blood. This revelation sealed her fate — when Premo returned home to Washington, DC, she adopted the alias Rose Corps (inspired by the dance film Center Stage) and began to seek out opportunities in the music business.
Those opportunities have come quickly. After learning the basics of DJing, Rose Corps released her first mix in Summer 2017, played her first gig in February 2018, and was spinning an opening set for Roosevelt by December 2018. Premo has stayed busy since then, taking opener slots for artists like Onra, Devin Morrison, GMGN, and Melvo Baptiste. Rose Corps has also contributed guest mixes to electronic music blogs like Vehlinggo and radio programs such as WERA 96.7FM's Studio 96, becoming known for sets that are forward-thinking but still deeply indebted to the history of dance & electronic music. At the same time, she has been writing and recording her original material, with the first Rose Corps single "Fantasies" having been released in October 2019.
So who is Rose Corps? Dancer, singer, DJ — she is all of these and more. She is a creative force, and while her path may have wandered it's only made her more certain of who she is. Never meant to stay in the background, Rose Corps is ready to step into the spotlight and take center stage.
