Biografie
Galina Ozeran aka Chikiss is a Russian songstress, composer, producer, pianist, dj. Over the last ten years she has recorded a remarkable range of music - from contemporary piano and electro-acoustic pieces to nostalgic synth-pop songs, shoegaze, noise-rock and spectral electronic avant-pop - all as a solo artist and in collaboration with others.
The Wire Magazine says: "Chikiss's music is dream pop turned inside out, just as Filthy Hun are inverting space rock and Swanox are pouring acid down Americana's gullet."
Galina was born in Vitebsk, Belarus. At the age of nineteen she moved to St.-Petersburg, Russia; she would then spend the next thirteen years in the world's most northerly city. Since 2015, she has been based in Berlin. She began her work on stage in the noise-punk ensemble "Nervenklinik" (2003) and then transferred to the psycho-rock outfit "188910" between 2005 and 2009. Together with Alexander Dubrovin (guitar) and Alexander Belkov (drums) she next founded her own band – 'Chikiss'. Lineup changes were constant…
She made remixes and worked with a plenty of musicians and artists such as Brian Pyle aka Ensemble Economique, Maya Postepski (Austra/ Trust/ Princess Century), Eva Geist, Jenny Wilson, Milky Toad, Barbara Morgenstern, Pilocka Krach, Scott Hardware, Franz Bargmann (NEU), Arsenii Morozov (Sonic Death, Padla Bear Outfit.), with whom she has created social punk band "Sablja", and many others. Remixes of Galya's tracks can be found in the dossiers of Hmot, Ensemble Economique, RSAC, Milky Toad, Mokh, Nocow, Speck, Arm Author, P.C.P., Kontext, Sensiva, SBP4 and others. Her multifaceted background involves numerous international festivals and clubs in Post-Soviet spaces and Europe - from Moscow "Olympiyski" to Berlin "Berghain".
She also has curated Russian-Ukrainian female electronic compilation "She Knows More Than She Thinks" on the Californian cult label NOT NOT FUN at the end of 2014. Like a peaceful message on a background of growing conflict between these two friendly in a past countries.
So she's career has undergone many metamorphoses, allowing her to remain securely at the forefront of Russian avant-garde scene.
Eight years have now passed since the publication of her first studio album "Medlenno" (Slowly); the same eight years have ushered in significant evolutions in this artist's life and aesthetic. She has published the "Bez kisloroda" EP (Without Oxygen) and the "Kino" single with remixes of friends, two of her noisiest and most psy-rock statements. There has been a joint album with Milky Toad, called "Zimni Son" (Winter Dream). Many domestic recordings should be considered here, plus numerous mixtapes for different media. These endlessly shifting plans have been accompanied by the related transition from piano, guitar, and rhythm-section to analog synths and a rhythm boxes, from the band to solo way.
In Spring, 2013 the Moscow magazine Afisha announced Galya's LP, the synth-pop "Nichego Ne Boisya" (Don't Be Afraid). Then was the album of remixes "Don't be afraid", released by label FUSElab and cycle of season ambient Galina Ozeran "Seasons" on the tape siberian record label KlammKlang.
On May, 5, 2017 the new project Video Salon - mirage duo of Chikiss and producer Brian Pyle (best known for his work as Ensemble Economique) has released the debut album on NOT NOT FUN records.
December,1 New Chikiss specter-pop opus LP "New Season" is out on NOT NOT FUN records.
