Biografie
Long before the Academy® Award and GRAMMY® Award nominations, platinum status, and radio success, Belly can recall pivotal lessons from his childhood in the Middle East that would forever shape his outlook. Those same themes of family and loyalty inspire him to this day.
Post-high school in Canada, he released a string of underground mixtapes, culminating on his 2007 full-length debut, The Revolution. The album went Gold in Canada, scored a Much Music Video Award, and solidified him as a national phenomenon. He kept releasing mixtapes, while carving out a niche as an in-demand songwriter.
Introduced to The Weeknd by a mutual friend in 2011, "three days of partying" turned into an undeniable creative partnership. After penning "Love Me Harder" for Ariana Grande and The Weeknd, he co-wrote six tracks from the chart-dominating triple-platinum 2015 epic, Beauty Behind The Madness, including "Earned It (Fifty Shades of Grey)"—which received an Academy® Award nod for "Best Original Song" and notched the GRAMMY® Award for "Best R&B Performance." Together, they went on to craft "6-Inch" for Beyoncé's Lemonade.
He signed to Roc Nation and unveiled 2015's Up For Days, spawning the RIAA Gold-certified hit, "Might Not" [feat. The Weeknd], which went #1 at Rhythm Radio and properly introduced Belly to North American audiences. It paved the way for 2016's Another Day In Paradise. A dark, dynamic, and definitive collection, the album showcases his clever wordplay and vivid lyricism alongside young luminaries like Travis Scott on "Money Go" and Kehlani on "You" as well as legends such as B-Real during the closer "Angels & Demons" and Lil Wayne on "Barely Sober." Throughout, he distinguishes himself as poignant, poetic, and powerful voice.
