Biografie
Odei Al-Magut is a jazz trombonist, composer, arranger and educator.
Born in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, Odei started playing the trombone at the age of 10. Between 2004 and 2011 he studied the jazz trombone at the famous jazz music school named after Kim Nazaretov in Rostov-on-Don, Russia. From the young age he toured in Russia, Germany, Scotland, Czech Republic, Syria and Greece.
In 2009, Odei was invited to be a soloist and the lead-trombonist of the Municipal Big Band named after Kim Nazaretov - one of the best big bands in Russia. The following year he was invited to join the East West European Jazz Orchestra (Germany). While still in Russia, Odei had the privilege of performing with some of the most respected Jazz artists including, Dennis Rowland, Wycliffe Gordon, Jerry Bergonzi, Dave Liebman, Alex Sipiagin, Nils Landgren "Funk Unit" and many more.
In 2011, Odei moved to the Netherlands and started his higher musical education at the Prince Claus Conservatory in Groningen, where he took lessons from the renowned trombonist Robin Eubanks. In 2012, Odei was honored and selected by the Prince Claus Conservatory to participate and represent the Netherlands at the North European Jazz competition, in this competition he became a winner of the GN-IX prize. In that same year Odei was also invited to play as a soloist with the Symphonic Jazz Orchestra conducted by the Grammy Award-winning musician John Clayton.
In 2012, Odei moved to Amsterdam and went on to major in Performance, Arranging and Composition at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. During this time he became a winner of the Ruud Booker Jazz Talent Award, an award given to the best young Dutch jazz musician of the year.
In 2013, Odei was honored to be one of 40 other musicians to take part in the finals of the Master-Jam International Competition. After being selected from 300 semi-finalists Odei went on to win the category of 'Best Trombonist'. In the following year, Odei was invited to play in a European Tour with the American world renowned groups: The Temptations and The Four Tops.
Odei Al-Magut currently works as a professional trombonist in Amsterdam leading his own quintet. He is also active in composing, arranging and educating, and noted for playing Tibetan bowls and sea shells as musical instruments.
