clipping. (sic) bevindt zich op het snijpunt van hiphop en noise. Echt alternatieve hiphop bestaat niet eerst sinds de komst van Death Grips. Artiesten als Techno Animal, Ice (Kevin Martin / Justin Broadrick), Antipop Consortium, Dälek, Sensational of Steve Hive (Patric Catani) sloegen de oplettende luisteraar al eerder om de oren met eigenzinnige, lawaaierige hiphop. Met clipping. zijn we nu een frisse variant rijker. Het trio bestaande uit de messcherpe tong van MC Daveed Diggs en de getalenteerde producers Jonathan Snipes (ex- CAPTAIN AHAB) en William Huston (RALE) stuurt haar muziek graag in 't rood aan, maar doen dat met finesse. Enige optreden in NL! Het Amsterdamse Terugklap hoeft zich niet te verschuilen achter de kunsten van clipping. De door hiphop, house en bass muziek geïnspireerde, stotterende beats en breaks van Terugklap zijn te omschrijven als de beste in-your-face beat tovenarij die er momenteel in Nederland te horen is. Hij heeft prachtplaten uit op Clone en Nijmegen's Lomechanik. Verdere muzikale omlijsting is handen van Ruwedata (Lowriders).

Formed in 2009, clipping. make music at the intersection of rap, musique concrète and noise. With tracks crafted by minimalist noise artist William Hutson (RALE) and film soundtrack composer Jonathan Snipes (also ex-CAPTAIN AHAB), they are not only capturing this level of threat and agitation, but also the cinematic barrenness of sprawling cement, fields of litter, and endless trees with every branch chopped off and painted black. Front man Daveed Diggs is not just quick with his words, but incredibly precise. He brings out the rhythm of the seemingly rhythmless. He punctuates melodies made out of negative space. Yes, they know about noise. But this is HIP HOP.

The beats and breaks of this young man are easily among the most impressive currently made in Holland. Amsterdam based Terugklap aka Sander Haakman sometimes deliberately dissects his in-your-face beat wizardry into stuttering conondrums of sound, only to be sewed back together skillfully when he pleases. Terugklap get's his cues from hip-hop, house, bass-music to household kitchenware and gardening tools. He has released a handful of high quality releases on Clone Records and Nijmegen's Lomechanik. His carefully composed chaos will twist your mind but keep your body moving.
