Met trots presenteren we Muziekgebouw at Trouw: Ben Frost & Nisennenmondai!
English:
Ben Frost returns to Amsterdam on May 20th to perform his long-awaited fifth studio-album A U R O R A. On his new album Ben Frost deepens his concentrated minimalism and intensely structured sound art that the world came to know through his much acclaimed albums Theory of Machines (2007) and BY THE THROAT (2009). Starved of all the adornments of its predecessors, A U R O R A offers a defiant new world of fiercely synthetic shapes and galactic interference, pummelling skins and pure metals.
This is no pristine vision of digital music; but an offering of future time, where emergency flares illuminate ruined nightclubs and the faith of the dancefloor rests in a diesel-powered generator spewing forth its own extinction, eating rancid fuel so loudly it threatens to overrun the very music it is powering.
Like the Y2K bug that inspired their name, Tokyo-based, no-wave/kraut-rock/japanoise/disco trio Nisennenmondai are the stuff of legends. Upon seeing them perform, Battles once remarked: ‘they made us look like idiots’. Which is to say these girls know how to play.
Favorite records by Luc Mast.
