Biografie
OTION (Guillermo Armand Blinker) is an MC, singer songwriter, spoken word artist and dancer/choreographer born, raised and based in Amsterdam. His extensive background in performing arts started at the age of 11 at the Lucia Marthas Institute for Performing Arts, where he started performing regularly for TV shows, musical theater productions, movies, concerts and more. After receiving his BFA in Dance and Choreography from the Rotterdam Dance Academy (Codarts), he was granted a scholarship to study at the Broadway Dance Center in New York. He dove head first into everything New York had to offer in terms of dance, music and spoken word poetry. After 2 very inspiring years he moved back to Amsterdam and continued to develop his voice as a solo artist, while working as a freelance performer and choreographer. Still frequently visiting New York he worked as a guest teacher/choreographer for the Joffrey Ballet School summer intensives.
At the beginning of 2017 OTION created the piece "I'm not black……I'm deep" for an event surrounding the work of photographer Ilja Meefout. In this solo performance he combined dance, spoken word / rap using a loop-station. The organic blend of disciplines felt complete and inspired him to keep creating his own vocal compositions and soundscapes. The loop-station became a signature element of OTION's performances at cultural, political and corporate events, museums, nightclubs, festivals and poetry nights. Later that year he created "It's a Ritual" his first 1-hour solo theater show performed at DEBUT Amsterdam (Tropen Instituut), a piece that was inspired by a trip to his motherland Surinam after 16 years of not visiting. On this trip he connected with something ancestral that inspired him artistically which marked the beginning of a new journey as a performer. In his words, the loop-station becomes a "spaceship" taking him and the audience into a space where he's able to share something spiritual, ancestral, futuristic, political, universal and personal.
However OTION manifests, it's always a dance on the intersection of creative expressions. At the moment he's collaborating with different artists and theater makers on various projects and performances, and his first EP will be released later this year.
Creative energy is flowing with force so be ready to see more of OTION and dive into his world…
