A techno supergroup that according to its members has no overarching aim or ideology – a rarity in a genre that loves nothing more than a baffling intellectual concept – ATOL is the culmination of four pillars of the Berlin underground community thrown together behind " a few turntables and a bunch of machines". Claiming to do little or no rehearsal, Modeselektor's rave-influenced dubstep, Berghain resident Dettmann's streamlined hard techno, and uber-producer Shed's elegantly textured production may seem unlikely bedfellows, but proved to be an astonishing experience for all present at the group's first outing in Germany last summer. Expect a collision of thundering bass, razor-sharp rhythms and masterfully constructed techno-funk in finest Berlin style.
