Biografie
The Father and the Sun was initially a personal project that dealt with the remembrance and the romance of times gone by that took the shape of a musical journey. Although fully formed in 2014 in the Netherlands, The Father and the Sun was initiated earlier by Ronny Janmaat, who in this personal journey looked to the past in order to prepare for the future. While the project tried to strike a balance between the producerly and the "live", the "live" would ultimately involve other musicians, with the emphasis on musicians. It was only when the current members Paul Dekker, Rogier van den Brink and Wout de Kruif commenced practicing and recording The Father and the Sun came into fruition. The music and subjects have now reached a stage in which they can be let go off and has since been given a name: The Father and the Sun. On the as of now released debut EP one can hear the result of things coming together.
Without resorting too much to labeling, since influences are many as always, the musical styles from the late 70s and early to mid eighties are there to be heard. Voice and lyrics work in tandem to convey the understated emotion, often working towards a climatic yet controlled release. The soundscape of guitar and keys form a layer that is regularly punctured by the lively and tight rhythm section of bass and drums. All this combined offers a journey that is deeply personal for both audience and performers. The performance subscribes to the unified yet at times divergent components of the music, in which guitar and voice (keys) give an understated translation of the quiet emotion, while bass and drums transfer that which literally moves us.
While it is still early days, there is a sense about The Father and the Sun that their development as a band can take many directions musically since their chemistry is clearly productive.
