Biografie
Rivet is the second coming of a veteran Swedish producer, quite literally. After over a decade of producing experimental techno and running his own labels, a near death motorbike accident changed the man's life in a million ways. Emerging from the difficult period, he turned to music for escape.
So far it's worked, as punters, the press and label managers alike have all fawned over what they have heard from Rivet, fast making him one of the underground's most cherished new names. Far from being the newcomer many expected, then, Mika Adam Hallback has been doing this for years as Grovskopa. So far in this latest incarnation there have been EPs on esteemed labels like Kontra-Musik and Skudge's own eponymous imprint, with raw and rusty techno, jagged industrial house and plenty of organic sounds all making up his discography to date. There's more to come on the same labels soon, as well as a collaboration with techno titan Blawan and many more remixes in both expected and unexpected contexts.
Keen to do his own thing and go his own way without sticking to a formula, Rivet is influenced by anything from Baby D to Liaisons Dangereuses and early Paul Johnson. "I love music that gives energy," says the man who grew up listening to Bronski Beat and Boytronic before eventually becoming obsessed with jungle and breakbeat in the 90's. Rivet likes to challenge himself, change set ups, use different bits of hardware and plenty of found sound recordings on a regular basis. Naturally, DJing and producing soon followed, and now Rivet states "creation is the most important aspect of my life, I could never live without it."
As such, his DJ sets are wholly creative and visually impressive things crafted using 4 decks (without USB or computer). Witness Rivet inimitably mixing a diverse track selection with ease. He chops, cuts and juggles quickly and efficiently à la American 90s DJs.
