There's a good chance 2013 will be Charlie Banks' annus mirabilis. Though the 19 year old has already made an auspicious entry into the house scene with a chart topping EP on Berlin's Dirt Crew Recording's, there's plenty more to come from a talent who has been DJing around England's South Coast for years.
His passions lay with bumpy house of the sort Julio Bashmore and Huxley have perfected recently, with more garage and bass influences coming from forward-facing imprints like Numbers and Night Slugs. It's these sorts of sounds Charlie has championed during sets in Portugal, Berlin and at famed Southampton night Junk, with plenty of inspiration picked up along the way to feedback into his upcoming productions.
Chief amongst those is an EP for ever on-point house label Hypercolour, as well as various remixes including for Irish housemasters, Jet Project, plus a next release with Dirt Crew Recordings. Along side those releases, Charlie is working with the likes of Hypercolour and Losing Suki talent BareSkin and also working on remix for the fast rising Love Not Money Records, all the time aiming to hone his own individual and recognisable production voice amongst a sea of sound-alikes.
Says Charlie… "I would say my style is quite upfront and heavy, especially when I play out. When it comes to making music, I'll usually have an idea of how I want my track to sound, but along the way many changes will be made and something completely different usually comes out. I'm really just trying to find my own identity though at the moment."
As well as listening out for new Charlie Banks productions, then, keep your eyes peeled for his upcoming gigs in one of many cities and festivals around the UK and beyond.
