Biografie
JB is just one of a long line of accomplished musicians, his father owned a chain of music shops specialising in synthesisers whose sound dominating 80s music. Both his parents are accomplished pianists and his grandfather, Jack Jackson, was not only a celebrated trumpeter and bandleader, but also a pioneering radio DJ, often referred to as the 'Grandaddy of radio' and went on to influence the DJ styles of Kenny Everett and Noel Edmonds.
At the tender age of 4, JB was ambling through the grounds of his uncle's studios when he bumped into the imposing figure of Lemmy from Motorhead. This chance meeting inspired JB and it was from here he developed his ambition to produce. He later became a runner at Jackson Studios (Denham), setting up recording sessions on Trident mixing desks, this provided his first real taste of studio work.
JB sang and played piano for music performances at Berkhamstead School from age 11 but his real musical career started when he was 14 playing thrash guitar in 'Vivid' a local band based in Berkhamsted. By now he could play piano, guitar, bass, drums, percussion and saxophone. 'Vivid' spent an exhilarating summer playing at local underground clubs 'Going Underground' and 'Horn Of Plenty' in St Albans. 'Vivid' also produced a, somewhat short lived, radio show that provoked such a massive amount of complaints from listeners due to the offensive content that it was promptly taken off the air! An achievement that JB and his formers band-members are still very proud of!
Around the same time, JB acquired his first studio that was based around an Atari 1080 and this is where he started to tap into his creative side, writing 1 song a day for the next 4 years. Typically these songs were full of teenage angst and despite being a very prolific writer during this time; few of his songs from this era have survived!
In 1994 he went to Exeter University to study physics and it's here that his musical tastes diverged and he joined a funk soul band called 'Skunk' playing keyboards. 'Skunk' played regularly at the Cavern Club in Exeter. In his final year at university JB formed his own band 'Octopussy' that, although had little musical ambition, did achieve its number one objective which was to gate-crash lots of parties!
After graduating he cut his skills as a songwriter/producer teaming up with singer/songwriter Jess Murphy for 2 years, writing and producing an album together. He was also mastering his production skills under the stewardship of Paul Harris at Swan studios, Islington, producing and writing on Pro-tools.
In 2000 he met friend and co-producer DJ Lee Dagger. Before too long they were cutting their own dance tunes, Lee would test them out on the dance-floor and JB would sit on the sub speakers listening and watching audience reaction. This is how JB and Lee developed the Bimbo Jones sound.
JB and Lee put their savings into pressing up vinyl and started pushing the Bimbo Jones sound into the record shops and onto the dance floor. Later in autumn 2001 they met their manager Alister Jamieson (Ambush) and they formed an unshakable team proved soon after by earning publishing deal from Simon Fuller at 19 .
In the past decade Bimbo Jones have ratcheted up over 50 number 1 dance tunes and have become the must have remixer for any self-respecting artist. But it hasn't just been all about remixing, Bimbo Jones wrote and produced the dance anthem 'Come Fly with Me' and with Katherine Ellis, they released their critically acclaimed album 'And I try' in Summer 2008 releasing 2 singles from the album, 'Harlem One Stop' got to number 1 on the UK dance charts and 'And I try' got to Number 1 in the Billboard 100. Both songs have even achieved that much sought after notoriety of being played on Eastenders!
JB has also followed in his Grandfather's footsteps and is bandleader of several bands using his network of live musicians to bring class and exceptional musical talent to high-society events.
