Plaat! is the artist name of Martijn Platenkamp. He grew up in Raamsdonksveer, a small village in the southern part of the Netherlands. He became interested in mixing House music in the early nineties when his brother started a pirate radio station. Besides it was fun to illegally pollute the ether with this revolutionary noise, he had a good opportunity to discover his own style. At first, his dad's belt driven turntables were converted into primitive homemade pitched ones by simply adding a rotary to the belt. Eventually, the primitive turntables were swapped for real pitchable ones and in 2000 he bought his first Technics SL1210's. Nowadays he still plays vinyl but also experiments with Traktor Scratch and time-coded vinyl. His style eventually evolved to Techno and Tech House and with his concept Buskruit, where he performs as resident DJ, he tries to let more people get in contact with these advanced House styles.
