Mikashi Yakamato

Mikashi Yakamato is an artist, DJ and graphical designer with roots spanning from Iraqi soil. At the age of 4, he moved to the Netherlands. Growing up with a musical father and with his mother being a painter, creativity always found a special place within Mikashi's life. He was brought up listening to the classical, jazz, soul and disco records of his parents, with artists like Al Jarreau, George Benson, The Bee Gees and Shakatak playing an important role in his musical development. In his teenage years, Mikashi's interest in Hip-Hop started to grow, going on to early house styles where he got inspired by artists like Larry Heard, Frankie Knuckles, Jovonn and The Beat Junkies.

Throughout his childhood, he established his passion for music and dancing and found various outlets to pursue a creative career. At the age of 15, he started b-boying and taught classes not long after that. Music and dance have significantly moved Mikashi to further careers. Starting in 2011, Mikashi uses his creativity to perform print design, branding and specifically in graphic design. To this day, this is a significant part of Mikashi's creative career.

In 2017, his biggest creative outlet came about as he began to DJ at different venues and parties. His style derives inspiration from his Arabic background, combined with a flavor of 80s and 90s Hip-Hop. Mikashi uses this distinct combination to play his passion and emotion through his musical style from house to tech-house to funky and more minimal sounds. He strives to create floating intimacy through the music, where he adds elements of jazz and disco, solidifying his presence in the current musical scene across the Netherlands.
