Biografie
Jan Willem Troost is a versatile cellist. You can see him playing in a classical orchestra, experimenting with composers and choreographers, or performing authentic Argentinean tango. At the moment Jan Willem is cellist in the Carel Kraayenhof Ensemble, Sexteto Canyengue, RE: Orchestra, Ensemble Modelo62, as well as several orchestras.
With Ensemble Modelo62 he premiered the opera El Limonero Real by Ezequiel Menalled in July 2015 at the CETC of Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. February 2015 he performed at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam with the Carel Kraayenhof Ensemble and the Dutch Chamber Orchestra. He wrote and performed his own music for the production Pessoa – a mist opera that was premiered during the Cello Biënnale 2014 at the Muziekgebouw, Amsterdam.
Troost co-created Beating Hollow, a duet for dancer and cellist, together with dancer/choreographer Samir Calixto (in collaboration with Korzo Productions). With this performance they were finalists in the Jur Naessens Muziekprijs 2009 competition at the BIMhuis, Amsterdam.
In 2006 Jan Willem Troost graduated from the Fontys Conservatory in Tilburg, where he studied with Paul Uyterlinde. Earlier, he was a student of Ran Varon and Jeroen den Herder at the Zwolle and Utrecht conservatories. He had lessons with Lucal Fels, cellist of the world famous Arditti Quartet. Nadia David is coaching him since 2013.
